ABOUT JULIE

I currently teach in Chicago and recently started BuddhiMat yoga.  Until it may become an in-person studio, my goal is to bring us together virtually by offering online yoga classes.  Contact me at info@buddhimat.yoga if there are classes that you'd like to see or if you are a teacher who would like a platform to offer online yoga classes.  Perhaps in the summer, we can even consider a neighborhood class (maintaining a safe distance apart of course!)

My Background:

Though my first class was in 1998, I truly discovered my yoga practice 12 years ago. The presence, focus, and clarity it brought me were so amazing that I obtained my RYT-200 level certification to help guide others to have same experiences.  Working in a large financial firm, I understand the day-to-day challenges of a high stress work environment and the need for yoga - which is even more as we adapt to work from home and shelter in place.  My teaching style is based on a love for catering practice to each unique group – from “typical” yogis to prenatal clients, families, teenagers, and athletes.  Some of us need a rigorous core based practice, others a slow flow, and still others just a place to show up and breath.  I teach for my students, whether it be the excitement in attempting crow for the first time without eating it at the same time or simply the calm in linking movement and breath in a moving meditation.

My Mission: To guide others to honor themselves through yoga.  We have the freedom to transform ourselves and yoga practices such as asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breath practice) are tools to help us on that journey.

Favorite Yoga Pose: Ardha Chandrasana, Half Moon.  The sense of balance and strength in a pose that seemingly appears off balance is an exhilarating experience.

Least Favorite Yoga Pose: From years of riding horses, ironically horse pose causes problems based on the outer rotation of the hips that is needed for this pose.  I often tell prenatal clients that this is the pose I have had to come to grips with since teaching prenatal yoga.

What You Can Expect from My Classes:  I believe strongly in svadhyaya, or self study.  As a teacher, I here as a guide, helping you develop tools for self-awareness and improvement – both on the yoga mat and their daily lives.  To get there, I lead an energetic and physical, yet introspective practice.
